Useful Information for Danville CA
Danville, CA is officially a town and not a city. Frequently referred to as the Heart of San Ramon Valley, Danville was originally part of the Mission San Jose's pastures for livestock. Danville was originally a farming community, switching from a basic grain crop to fruit and nuts when the railroad came through in 1891.
It's increased accessibility led to more settlers and a subsequent demand for residential housing. The first school was built in 1859, followed by a church in 1875.
One of the most remarkable things about Danville is how many of its' earlier buildings survive to this day. The town was not incorporated until the relatively late date of 1982, and is regarded as one of the more upscale communities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Home to many fine shopping venues and restaurants, Including the upscale community of Blackhawk, and with Alamo right next door, Danville is one of the wealthiest zip codes in the nation.
Closely associated with Danville are the Blackhawk and Alamo areas.
Blackhawk is an unincorporated master-planned community that provides 24 hour security for residents, paid for through Home Owners Association dues. One local claim to fame is the fact Blackhawk is mentioned in the song Salvation by the band Rancid.
Alamo is equally interesting, and is also an unincorporated community.
Named by the Spanish for the poplar trees found in the area, Alamo is famous for the Boulevard of Trees Project that was active from 1987 until 2005. Its' mission was to enhance and preserve the rural character by the planting of many trees.
