Useful Information for Pleasanton CA
Pleasanton, CA was incorporated in 1894 and is located in the Tri-Valley area. The city was originally scheduled for a slightly different name, as it was supposed to be named after Major General Alfred Pleasonton, but a typographical error led to the more pleasant name.
One of the earliest claims to fame for Pleasanton was the making of the silent film Rebecca of Sunnybrook Farm there in 1917 and starring Mary Pickford. Phoebe Hearst also lived in the area that is now known as Castlewood Country Club after her 50 room mansion which was located on 2000 acres burned down.
Today, Pleasanton is known for a revitalized downtown area consisting of quaint shops and fine restaurants. The Alameda County Fairgrounds are also located here. One of the premiere events hosted there is the annual Scottish Games, the largest highland games in the world.
