Useful Information for San Ramon CA
San Ramon, CA started out as part of Mission San Jose, and was originally used as grazing lands for the mission livestock. The local creek was named San Ramon after one of the Indian cowboy/sheepherders named Ramon. After Spanish tradition, the San was later added to make it officially San Ramon.
The first European settlers arrived in 1850, and in 1873 the first official post office was opened and the name became official for the state. Subsequent development occurred with the addition of a church in 1860, a general store in 1863, a stagecoach line in 1864, and a local school, jail and requisite blacksmith.
Probably the biggest impact on the area occurred when the Southern Pacific railroad came through in 1891. The train not only brought in people, but it carried agricultural products to help grow the local economy.
San Ramon did not officially incorporate until the relatively late date of 1983, and the city is today home to the Bishop Ranch Office Park, whose tenant include both small businesses and Fortune 500 companies.
They also have a new library, community center, and a hospital. All of these are signs of the vibrant growth indicative of the city.
